When you’re preparing for a holiday, whether that’s abroad or at home in the UK, it can seem like a lot of work. Of course, at the end of it all, it will be worth it, yet when you’re thinking about passports, luggage allowance, pet care, arranging a house sitter and so much more, you’re not alone in feeling overwhelmed!

What’s more, if you’re like many of us, who haven’t been on a plane for a couple of years, you might find yourself trying to put together a pre-holiday checklist whilst also keeping in mind the latest travel tips.

Travelling abroad is back on the cards for many destinations, which is why we have put together the following guide of our holiday essentials and all of the holiday preparation you should have in mind for 2022.

Pick Your Destination

This may seem obvious, however, the first step in any holiday preparation is picking a destination.

Why not go somewhere new, or adventurous to make up for the lost time? Maybe you have a bucket list country you’ve always wanted to visit, and now is the perfect time to go.

At the moment, there has been a highlight on booking ATOL protected holidays and ensuring that your trip is completely covered with ATOL protection.

ATOL protected travellers will be able to book with confidence that they’ll be offered credit notes if packages are cancelled as a result of COVID-19.

Organise a COVID Test

No matter where you’re looking to jet off to, you’ll likely need a negative covid test.

The tests you’ll need before and after your trip will depend on the country you are visiting, their local laws and whether or not you are fully vaccinated.

Fully vaccinated passengers and under 18s who are arriving in the UK will no longer need to take a pre-departure test, nor will they have to self-isolate on arrival. All they’ll need to do is take a day two lateral flow test.

The best way to check whether your travel destination requires proof of a negative COVID-19 test, make sure to check the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office travel advice page.

Check Your Passport

If there’s one thing important for your holiday preparation, especially after so many of us haven’t travelled abroad for so long, is to check your travel documents and passport and make sure they’re all still valid.

Make sure that you don’t leave renewing your passport until the week before your trip! The whole process could take an awful lot longer than you expect, especially with COVID slowing down the process and creating long wait times.

At present, you should allow up to around 10 weeks to receive your new passport. It’s not something to prepare at the last minute at all!

Travel Insurance

At the end of the day, there’s no substitute for good travel insurance cover. As soon as your trip is booked, it’s best to get on and get all of the details of your travel insurance sorted well in advance. It’s better to be safe rather than sorry!

No matter where your holiday destination may be, a key part of your holiday preparation should be insurance.

Travel Checklist

When it comes to preparing for your next holiday, some things just don’t change. Putting together a holiday packing checklist can be the key step to a stress-free break. Make sure to visit the bank and get all of the travel money you need, the right adaptors, set an alarm to beat the traffic jams and download all the films you need to get you through a long flight.

Many travellers choose to opt for a prepaid card, simply to save themselves a little bit of hassle.

You’ll also want to have your hand luggage together ready for carry on, including sun cream and other useful small luggage pieces.
